State of the Arts Panel

23 September 2026 | 18:00–20:00

Is Wellington still the creative capital? What do creatives need to thrive? What happens to a society without access to art? How could your vote save us?

State of the Arts: A panel discussion with Pōneke’s creatives reflecting on how arts and creativity has changed across the years. Panellists include Martyn Pepperell (music journalist), Jamie Mulholland (director of Blue Door Studios), Peggy Robinson (PEG Gallery) and Jason Muir (performer and hairstylist) and Haylee Hailwood (singer for Cruelly and Damiasharko), facilitated by Ruby Vidgen (member of SOUP and a passionate multidisciplinary artist). Come kōrero with your community and get inspired about the future of arts. Come along to Soup’s first public event!

SOUP is a new collective project with a shared vision on ultimately trying to bridge the gap of political engagement (currently in Wellington) through creative avenues. Their mission statement communicates just that, “Empowering people to make decisions from an informed perspective towards creating a society which enables all people to create, connect, learn and pursue their interests.”
