Legal Hacks for Common Spaces
Doors open 5.00pm for drinks, nibbles and kōrero. Workshop starts at 6.00pm.
Critical Signals believes that communities should be able to use empty spaces for collective good. That means community gardens instead of an empty parking lot, or a tool library in that shed that hasn’t been used for 5 years. This is what “Urban Commoning” looks like.
In the second part of of our Urban Commoning series, we’re hosting a workshop on re-writing the law to empower community to use the empty spaces around us. Attendance at previous event not necessary. Giuseppe comes from Naples where his work was instrumental in paving the way to recognising the commons officially in Italian law.
Last time you brought a photo of an urban space, green area, or building that has been abandoned or fallen into disuse—perhaps one whose history you already know or would like to investigate further. This time, we will delve further into a few of the spaces we discovered last time, and explore the changes we can ask our politicians to make, so that the people who live in the neighbourhood, can benefit from the neighbourhood.
There will be nibbles, discussion, and the chance to make a change in the city you live in.
Tickets $10 or koha 8 attending
