Giuseppe Micciarelli

Giuseppe Micciarelli is a scholar whose research lies at the intersection of political theory and the sociology of law. He has published extensively on the commons, critical theory, social movements, algorithmic governance, and the neoliberalisation of public and private institutions He is currently exploring the grassroots design of digital twins through citizen-science approaches, with the aim of enabling community oversight of climate-change impacts and extreme events.. Drawing on a methodology of political and legal hacking, he works with practitioners, associations, and local authorities to strengthen democratic tools and policies.He has supported dozens of commons-based regeneration initiatives around the world, helping them navigate their relationships with public authorities and resist co-optation by market actors. He is among the researchers and activists who developed the governance framework for urban commons in Naples, contributing to the establishment of the “urban civic use” model.
